Below are given frequently asked questions and answers related to tachographs and memory cards:
A digital tachograph is a control device fitted in a vehicle to automatically record the drive mode. The following data are recorded: driving, break/rest times, activity, accessibility, speed, distance elapsed and other parameters. The data are recorded in the unit mass memory and driver card.
Mandatory implementation of digital tachographs in trucks and buses in the EU took effect on 16 June this year by Decision of the European Commission, and this also refers to countries that are not member states of the Union and which participate in the EU traffic. However, for 12 EU non-member countries, among which Macedonia, the term for applying those cards was extended to the beginning of the next year, and by that period transporters are obliged to activate digital tachographs in their buses and trucks, and in the workshops of the first country they have entered having enacted that obligation. And for us those countries are: Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Croatia and Italy. Controls of application of digital tachographs on national level will be performed by transport inspectors and the police having statutory obligation to inspect two percent of the transport companies per year. Oldest vehicles with technical possibility to use digital tachographs are Euro 4, while Euro 3 vehicles (which cannot implement these tachographs) may participate in the EU traffic up to 2012.
